Sounds You Should Never Ignore Around Your Home

There are a lot of working parts that come together to make a house function. It is no surprise, then, that our homes make plenty of squeaks and creaks. Most of these noises do not mean anything, but how can you tell if your house is making a noise that you should pay attention to? Prime Custom Builders wants you to be prepared for all areas of homeownership. So, we have compiled a list of noises your home can make that you should not ignore.

Leaking Water

One of the most alarming sounds you can hear is that of running water when no one is using the plumbing. Water damage can cause significant damage in no time at all. So, as soon as you hear this sound it is imperative that you locate the source and call a plumber if you do not know how to fix your own plumbing.

Clanking When the Heating Turns On

When you first switch your system over to heat for the season, it is normal to hear some clicking or knocking. The pump itself, however, should never make noise. So, if you hear clanking coming from your boiler, you should have a professional come out and inspect it.

Scratching from Behind the Walls

If you are lying in bed and hear what you think is scratching behind your walls or in your attic, it is probably not just in your head. Noises like this are important not to ignore because they are likely coming from a critter that has found their way into your home. Mice, raccoons, and birds can do a lot of damage if left to their own devices. So, it is best to call a professional to come and capture the animal as soon as you can.

Hissing

Do you have gas in your home? If so, if you ever notice a hissing sound near your gas meter, immediately remove yourself from the area and call a professional. This sound often indicates a gas leak and is extremely dangerous. Normally, you will be able to smell a gas leak, but if you hear this noise instead, you will know what it is and what to do.

Homes can make all sorts of charming, harmless noises, like creaks from wooden floorboards. But we know that there are some noises that indicate that something is wrong. And now that you know what they are, you will be able to identify and handle them with confidence.
