Tips for Tackling Clutter

Having plenty of storage in a home is important for many families. And whatever is a priority to you is a priority to us here at Prime Custom Builders. Which is why we can design your home with all of the nooks and crannies that you desire. Even when you have plenty of storage space though, life has a way of making things messy. When clutter starts to overwhelm you, try incorporating some of these tips so that you can find solutions for tackling clutter once and for all.

Rules That Will Keep Your Home Clutter Free

#1: Make sure everything has a place. This is the number one thing you can do to keep your home neat and tidy. If you have rooms where not everything has a place at the moment, take stock of all the things in that room. Identify what is essential to keep and what you can let go of. Sending things that no longer are of service to you to the donation bin can help immensely. And then once you have parred things down, make sure everything has a place in a bin, under the bed, or in a closet. Once they have a designated space, make sure they wind up back there when you are done with them.

#2: If a task takes less than a minute to complete, don’t put it off. Leaving a dish here and a paper there can quickly snowball into overwhelming clutter. That is why it is a good rule that if putting something away will take you less than a minute, just do it now rather than later. Put those clothes in the hamper. Put that dish in the dishwasher. Save yourself the headache of having to do a bunch of little tidying tasks like these later.

#3: When a new item comes into the house, one old item needs to be donated. Keeping a one in, one out policy will prevent needless doubles from accumulating in your house and prevent you from hanging onto items that you just do not use. If you need to upgrade your blender, give the old one away or sell it on Facebook Marketplace. If you want a new pair of shoes but get lost in the ones you already have, let go of a pair you do not wear often for a new pair that you will.

At the end of the day, clutter can drive you just about bonkers. It makes it difficult to find what you need and the visual clutter can translate to mental clutter as well. By putting these tips to use in your own home, you can beat clutter once and for all.
