Ways to Beat the Heat This Summer
It is hot, hot, hot! No matter where you are in the country, it seems like no one can escape it. And that is certainly true in Pennsylvania where our team at Prime Custom Builders operates out of. Even though every Prime Custom Home comes with powerful HVAC systems, sometimes, you just need to take extra measures to beat the extreme heat. Here are a few ways you can do that.
Freeze Your Pillow
When temperatures are sky high, it can disrupt the sleep for many. If heat causes you to toss and turn in your sleep, try freezing your pillow! Put your pillow in a plastic bag and toss it in the freezer before you go to bed. This will give it temporary cooling abilities that will help you fall asleep. For a more permanent solution, upgrade to a cooling pillow. These pillows are filled with buckwheat hulls that allow air circulation through the pillow. The ultimate result is a cooling effect.
Keep Curtains Closed
One of the biggest ways that heat breaks into your home is through your windows. During the hottest parts of the day, your windows can become like magnifying glasses. Which is exactly why closing your curtains when the sun is highest in the sky will greatly reduce the amount of heat that gets transferred into your home.
Utilize Fans
Fans are your best friend when trying to keep cool. If you run a few ceiling, box, or standing fans in addition to running your air conditioner, this will amp up the cooling power. This tag team will allow you to run your AC at a higher temperature while still maintaining a comfort level that you prefer.
Additionally, you can set a bowl of ice in front of a tabletop fan to create a secondary “AC Unit”. And don’t forget to switch your ceiling fans to run counterclockwise. This makes sure that the air is pushed straight down to increase airflow and a nice breeze.
If you put these suggestions to use, you can comfortably beat the heat this summer!
