Household Uses for Borax

Borax has been a tried and true cleaning favorite for generations. If you want to simplify your cleaning game, you can do so with a cost-effective box of Borax. Creating your own cleaning products can save you money as well as allow you to control the ingredients you expose your family to. Prime Custom Builders is here to direct you towards a few ways you can make the best use of Borax in your home.

Create Laundry Detergent

Borax based laundry detergents are popular because this alkaline mineral kicks mold and mildew to the curb. Fresher smelling towels and linens? Yes, please! Simply mix two parts washing soda, two parts Borax, and one part of your favorite essential oil or scented grated soap.

Discourage Pests

If ants, fleas, or other pests plague areas of your home, you can get rid of them with Borax. Just sprinkle a thin layer over problem areas. This works because Borax is a desiccant, which means that it absorbs the moisture around it. So, it will either kill your pests by drying them out or simply make that area uninviting to them.

Help Your Garden

Borax has a pH level of 9.5. To get the best harvest from your garden, the pH level needs to be right. Oftentimes, soil is lacking in this area. Give your fruits and vegetables the boost they need by supplementing your soil with a sprinkling of Borax.

Refresh Carpet

As was mentioned, Borax absorbs moisture around it. If your carpet is developing a musty smell, you can sprinkle a bit of Borax over the top to combat it. Let it sit for at least 45 minutes and then vacuum it up. Super easy!

Unclog Drains

Since Borax is quite acidic and alkaline, it breaks down grease very well. The next time your drain is a little backed up, pour a mixture of Borax and boiling water down the hatch. Let that sit for at least 20 minutes and then rinse.

A quick search on the web and you can find a million and one more uses for Borax. The bottom line is that Borax is just an excellent item to keep in your home for all sorts of cleaning uses.
