Things You Should Always Keep In Your Pantry
Settling into a new home feels a lot like starting over. You may need to restock your home with cleaning supplies and tools, or you might need to do so for the very first time if this is your first home. When thinking of stocking your home with staples, don’t forget about your pantry! At Prime Custom Builders, we build our homes with plenty of functional spaces, like pantries, and here are some of the staples you should fill them with.
Rice
Rice is a versatile staple that can be used as a base for many dishes. Opt for long-grain white rice or brown rice, depending on your preference. It has a long shelf life and can be used in stir-fries, pilafs, salads, and more.
Pasta
Pasta is another versatile pantry staple that can be used in a variety of dishes. Choose different shapes and sizes, such as spaghetti, penne, or fusilli, to accommodate various recipes. It pairs well with a variety of sauces, from tomato-based to creamy options.
Canned Beans
Canned beans, such as black beans, chickpeas, and kidney beans, are an excellent source of protein and fiber. They can be used in soups, stews, salads, or as a base for vegetarian meals. Rinse canned beans before using to reduce sodium content.
Canned Tomatoes
Canned tomatoes, including diced, crushed, or whole tomatoes, are a pantry staple for making pasta sauces, chili, stews, and soups. They provide a rich and flavorful base for many recipes and are a convenient alternative to fresh tomatoes.
Canned Tuna/Salmon
Canned tuna or salmon are excellent sources of protein and can be used to make sandwiches, salads, or pasta dishes. They are shelf-stable and offer a quick and easy option for meals.
Olive Oil
Olive oil is a staple for cooking and adding flavor to dishes. It is commonly used in salad dressings, sautéing, and roasting. Opt for extra virgin olive oil for its superior taste and quality.
Stock/Broth
Stock or broth, whether in liquid or powdered form, is a pantry essential for creating flavorful soups, stews, and sauces. Opt for chicken, vegetable, or beef stock, depending on your cooking preferences.
Canned Coconut Milk
Canned coconut milk is a versatile ingredient that adds creaminess and flavor to both savory and sweet dishes. It is commonly used in curries, soups, smoothies, and desserts.
Nuts and Seeds
Nuts and seeds, such as almonds, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseeds, provide a nutritious and versatile addition to your pantry. They can be used in baking, as toppings for salads and yogurt, or as a snack on their own.
These are just a few examples of pantry staples that can form the foundation for a wide range of meals. It's always a good idea to stock your pantry with ingredients that you regularly use and enjoy, tailoring it to your personal taste and dietary needs.
