Bye Bye Bacteria!

Cleaning is an important aspect of maintaining the health of your home and those who live in it. And since we all need to eat several times a day, the kitchen is surely one area that gets cleaned often. But if you do not thoroughly clean, store, or replace the tools you use to clean your kitchen, they could end up spreading more bacteria rather than removing it. Not to worry, though! Prime Custom is here to outline a few principles you can keep in mind when it comes to your cleaning tools.

A Few of Bacteria’s Favorite Things

Knowing your enemy is the key to fighting them effectively, and that is no different with bacteria. There are certain environments that bacteria thrive in and some where they do not. So, what kind of things do bacteria love?

For starters, they love warmth. 40-140 degrees Fahrenheit is the ideal climate for bacteria growth. Another element that bacteria loves is moisture. Something that wash cloths, sponges, and scrub brushes typically have in common. Bacteria also require oxygen to survive. And lastly, bacteria does best in pH neutral environments.

How to Battle Bacteria

Since your kitchen cleaning tools are perfect bacteria hot spots, cleaning them regularly is a must. So, what can you do?

Sponges- Due to their porous nature, sponges are particularly susceptible to bacteria. It can be difficult to effectively clean all those absorbent pockets, which is why it is recommended that you replace them every week. Also be sure to place your sponge in an area where it will be able to dry quickly in between uses.

Washcloths- Another popular cleaning tool is the washcloth. These are great options because they are easy to reuse. Popping your washcloth in the washer every other day with a touch of bleach is the best way to avoid spreading bacteria around your kitchen space.

Scrub Brushes- A great option for cleaning the dishes is a scrub brush. A wide bristled choice allows you to remove food debris with ease and a suction handle allows you to set the brush upright to dry. Thus, eliminating several of the bacteria generating elements. To clean it more thoroughly, you can set it bristle side up on the top rack of the dishwasher, or you can set it in a cup of white vinegar to soak for an hour.

And there you have it! With these principles in mind, you can have the confidence that your cleaning tools are doing what they are supposed to- clean.
